Many professional societies have created guidelines for safe OBS practice. In addition, rules and regulations governing OBS practice vary significantly by state.
In order to promote safety and encourage states to develop guidelines, the American Medical Association (AMA), with input from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) published a consensus list of 10 AMA Core Principles of Office Based Practice.
